I received this as a gift. The first time I used it, the reading was different each time so I tried it on myself and the same thing happened. Ever since then, it reads in celcius and there are no instructions on how to change it. I tried to use it anyway and go on the internet to convert it but it shows the conversion as 91.7 which I know is wrong. I finally got fed up and purchased the forehead kind instead. It works much better.

I received this thermometer as a gift when my baby was born. The first time I used it, it said my baby had a temperature of 104.1. I panicked and prepared to rush him to the emergency room. I tried a second reading (in the same ear), and that reading showed 97.9; the third reading was 100.5, followed by 102.7. I then switched to a cheap oral thermometer that cost less than $10, and that one showed a consistent reading of 100.3. I am very disappointed in the poor quality and unreliability of the rapid read ear thermometer. The worst part is, if I hadn’t been lucky enough to have a cheap spare thermometer, I would not have known whether my baby actually had a fever, and, if so, how high the fever was. My rapid read ear thermometer is now in the garbage, where it belongs.

Nothing but frustration from this thermometer. I’ll test on myself (Healthy) and it’ll read 97 once then 101 the 2nd time.
At 4AM with a sick kid, this the last thing you want to question is your thermometer.

I bought this from Target for about $30 dollars and from the very first use it’s always given me inaccurate readings. I don’t mean small inaccuracies, it will range from 97.7 one try and then the next may read 100.3. If I repeatedly take my sons temperature 5 times in a row it will be different by whole degrees on every reading. I’ve tested it angling it at the same direction every time and on an adult ear and it always does the same thing. If I could give this item 0 stars I would. I’m surprised that this product hasn’t been taken off the shelves.

When I first bought and used this thermometer, it worked the way it was supposed to work. About 4 months after, I tried to use this again because my 9-mo old baby had a fever, and it first read 96.1F … then I redo it again thinking maybe I didn’t do it correctly, and it then read 90.7F. I KNOW the readings were wrong because my baby was burning up! Reading the instructions again and redoing didn’t help. So I had my spouse goto Walgreens (at 11:30p) and picked up a Vicks Pro-Style thermometer for $17 — at least $10 less than this piece of junk!! btw, the Vicks read 101.3F. If I could give a negative star for this American Red Cross product, I gladly would!

this sucks i finally found out how to change it to f when it changed itself to c, but now it always reads wrong no matter what….my kids burning up when i touch him and it says 93.1….horrible product good thing i didnt waste my money on it but sorry for the person who gave it to me…
to change it hold down the start button until it displays c then let go to change to f…easy but should’ve been in the instructions..
