I bought this for my 12 month old for Christmas. It is way too sensitive for his little hands. It repeats everything because he wants to “pet” the book. My husband and I wish that we bought the Leap pad version instead. I hope that my son eventually grows into it. Meanwhile, we have to listen to the “rapping”.

I am really unable to say how educational or durable this toy is because I can’t get my children to sit with me & play with it. My daughter loves her Leapster & My First LeapPad so I thought I would get the Power Touch Baby for my young son. Neither one has shown ANY interest in it at all for months. This is my first review & I do not like being so negative but I hope someone finds this helpful.

I have two boys- 1 and 2 1/2 years old. For Christmas, we received the “Power Touch Baby” from one set of grandparents and “My First Leap Pad” from the other set. Both of my boys showed more interest in the Leap Pad from the get-go. At first, I thought it was the familiarity of the characters (we have several Leap Frog toys), but I realized that the PTB was repeating the same sound over and over and the book was constantly becoming detatched from the unit making it especially difficult for my one-year-old to figure it out. After several minutes of same-sound repetitions, I tried to turn the toy off and it didn’t work. My husband took the battery cover off and the back panel smelled of alkaline and started to smoke when he removed the batteries. It’s going back in the morning and we are sticking with Leap Frog.

I enjoyed playing with the Baby Power Touch Reading System with my granddaughter, so I had to buy a second for my grandson.

I bought this for my son’s 1st birthday. He is now 2 and over the year it has grown to be his favorite toy.We have most of the books which he loves playing with, but after awhile he pulls the book off and just plays with the music on the system itself. He likes to push the button quickly to get to his favorite song- a classical piece with a quick beat that makes him laugh as he dances. While I agree with the other reviewers that this toy is very touch sensitive, I believe that’s why my son loves it so much. He gets results when he touches something without having to be ‘rough’.As for learning, he knows his animal sounds and even many of his letters (though I must credit LeapFrog’s Fridge Phonics with some of his alphabet learning)He’s also learned to match the right cartridge with the book when he wants me to change books for him.Overall, this is a great toy for babies- lots of fun for them and they won’t even know they’re learning!
