This is an expensive set that is really not worth it. The instructions are to watch it twice a day, every day, which is time consuming. The videos are boring. My son is a very active child and had no interest in this whatsoever. I had heard (from an Usborne Book Rep) that this system works as everytime it shows the word “hi” in the beginning and then the girl says “hi”, her daughter said it before the girl. Well, kids are good at remembering – it doesn’t mean she can read.
I’d spend your time and money looking through books or another method to teach your child to read – a baby doesn’t need to read!

What a great thing – my opinion is based on what I have seen with my child with like programs – I don’t have this currently, but am buying this now. I was taken aback by a negative review and so I am stating that Han’s Mom’s argument is closed-minded and based on nothing but her opinion and that’s fine, but is it plausible that a child that can read words and eventually books not ask his caregiver what the word is that they can’t say and then learn phenomes at that point as well – Kids learn just about everything from people around them and by asking babies learn proper pronounciation of words, why not rules of grammar? I’m sure you are old enough to figure out what sounds letters make at this point, no? It’s like saying that if a child learns how to brush his teeth up and down, he may never learn back and forth. Babies an learn and so can young children, and most parents work as they go with other things. It seems the rest of the world is far ahead in education and short-sighted opinions like yours are part of the ‘expert’ problem that abounds. I am a transplant to the US and in 5th grade, my sisters were working on calculas and reading countless complicated books for entertainment, yet kids are having problems in all areas of education in a nation where everything is available.

I ordered this November 12, 2009. Today is December 16, 2009. Still has not arrived. I ordered from Gymboree last Friday and it arrived yesterday ( 3 days only). I will never order from this place again. Now I have to send the DVDs to the children (whenever it arrives). I already went to 2 Christmas parties and I had to tell the recipients that their gift did not arrive yet. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT AND INCONVENIENCE!. Now I have to spend for another shipping cost.

If your child already shows an interest in repeating words, reading books, and/or interacting with TV, then this can help spur him/her along. However if your child is not interested in any of the above, the DVD’s will just be something else to put on tv to distract them for a while, it won’t foster any speech from what I’ve noticed. The only thing that will work “miracles” for your kid is one-on-one interaction with you and your child (or grandchild), not something you pop on the tv. Nevertheless, I bought this for my grandson just because it’s better than spongebob.

Carefully designed by Robert Titzer (an acclaimed expert in infancy research and an educator for more than 15 years), “Your Baby Can Read!” is a complete system of do-it-yourself activities that parents can easily and naturally use to encourage their infants and toddlers to understand the written word just as they are also learning to use spoken words. This simply outstanding and thoroughly ‘user friendly’ boxed DVD set system utilizes songs, poems, animals, and children in a multi-sensory, interactive approach that is as effective as it is fun for both children and their parents. Included is a complete overview of the program, an orientation to help parents get started with their children, and a parent’s ‘how to’. The sliding word and picture cards are specifically designed to be a companion set for the “Your Baby Can Read!” DVDs. The included blank, erasable Learn to Read word card provides parents with the means to teach their children an unlimited amount of new words. “Your Baby Can Read!” is confidently recommended for parents wanting to insure that their children have all the advantages when it comes to cognitive development and learning skills.
